Many dry stone walls were built hundreds of years ago and are an important feature of our environment. I am often asked what holds them up? My answer to this is gravity and friction and a prescribed method of laying the stones. Many walls today have lost their structural integrity due to lack of maintenance or poorly carried out repairs, years of weathering and physical damage from livestock, vandalism and impacts from motor vehicles.
I really enjoy reusing the stone and sympathetically restoring these walls to their former glory.
